The Discover Australia coins 2010 Dreaming series is here

The Perth Mint in Australia is well known as a world class producer of commemorative, collectible and legal tender coins. Its beautiful series based on the Chinese lunar calender has been well received worldwide, and older editions are already scarce because collectors don’t want to part with them. Another recently released series is the Discover Australia coins, and it is almost certain to prove as popular as other Perth Mint series releases.

Released from 2009 through 2011, the Dreaming Series is the latest addition to the roster of Discover Australia coins, which feature icons of Australian wildlife on the reverse side. Created by indigenous artist Darryl Bellotti, the designs include interpretive depictions of the turtle, kangaroo, dolphin and others. The coins are produced in gold and silver in extremely limited quantities, which helps to ensure that they both retain and increase in their value as collector’s items for years to come, in addition to the value of the 99.9 percent pure gold and silver that they contain.

The gold Discover Australia coins in the 2010 Dreaming series feature artistic interpretations of the frilled neck lizard, koala, platypus, saltwater crocodile and common wombat, all of which are creatures that are indigenous and unique to the continent of Australia. The gold coins are minted in weights of 1/25, 1/10 and 1/2 ounces, and feature the famous image of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse (front) sides of the coins. In each designation of animal image, only 25,000 of the smallest coins, 10,000 of the 1/10 ounce coins and a mere 1,000 of the largest coins will be released by the mint, so they are already becoming rare by the time yours arrive. Each comes with a Certificate of Authenticity numbered by the mint. The coins are available in an individual presentation package, as part of a five coin set or a three year subscription totaling 15 coins.

Designer Bellotti takes much of his inspiration from traditional Australian Aboriginal art blended with his own contemporary interpretations of the animals featured in this unique series of Discover Australia coins, which are sure to be a hit with any collector.
