Flow meter: Measure the flow
A flow meter is an instrument that is used to measure the flow of a liquid or any other kind of substance which is flowing through any kind of pipe, chamber of tube. This is primarily done to check the over all condition of the machine. It also helps in gauging the operation level and efficiency of the machine. The correct maintenance and upkeep of the flow meter equipment will result in great readings. Hence the flow meter system should always be tuned up.There are different flow meter types which are used for different purposes. Here are some of them. Peak flow meter: This instrument helps in assessing the state of the lungs of a person. It generally is used in measuring the rate of air exhalation from the lungs. This device helps in understanding the level of fitness of a person and even the vital capacity of the lungs. But, despite all its applications, the primary use of a peak flow meter is to test for asthma in a person or even assessing the disease level after diagnosis. The method used to gauge the air flow rate is pretty simple. The method is known as the displacement method which involves keeping a float in a closed space like pipe or tube. Then the air is passed through it and the displacement of the float is measured. The rate of displacement is then used in calculating the rate of flow. This device finds used in many places such as food, water, industrial and chemical industries. Ultrasonic flow meters: These flow meters operate on the principle of flow of ultrasonic waves. According to the principle, a correlation can be established between the rate of flow of a fluid and the related frequency change of an ultrasonic wave. The principle is identical to that of another kind of flow meter known as the Doppler shift flow meter. This Doppler shift flow meter is a preferred way of measuring fluids and liquids containing reclaimed or waste water. Thermal dispersion flow meters: This kind of flow meter uses heat or thermal dispersion to work. The basic modus operandi is based on the variation in the amount of heat from the pipe or tube heat source. The rate of flow of the gas or liquid more commonly called fluids which pass through the heat source will be proportional to the heat change.Apart from these flow meter equipments, there are many other different kinds of flow meters like wheel, magnetic and turbine. These are mainly used in large industries and establishments. You need to select the right kind of flow meter depending on your needs. Here are some criteria to choose the right kind of flow meter for your requirementsProcess control repeatabilityCustody or accounting transfer at high risk and securityRemote signal or low signalFlow rate of the range flowPiping requirementsSpecific density or gravityThe maintenance of flow meter is governed by different factors. Try choosing stationary flow meters since they don’t have moving parts to hamper your reading.
