If this is the case you’ll need to take away the lacquer first before cleaning the handle which we are not truly going to get into today. So now that we all know what we are working with lets push on. This technique will work for both solid and plated carlisle brass products. First you are going to need to employ a damp material and wipe off any dust or primary dirt that’s lingering on the surface of your handle. After it is clean you are going to need to head to the kitchen and find flour, vinegar, and salt. Mix equal proportions of the 3 together to make a paste. Now before you apply this paste, wet the handle down again with water. Once it is wet apply the paste we made until it covers all the brass. If the brass door handles is still on the door ensure you put something on the floor to look after anything that drips off. Let the handle sit with the paste on it for 30-45 mins then clean it off and take a quick look at the brass. If it is clean enough then you are done and if not then you want to reapply the paste for another half hour or so and check again.
If the strategy above failed to quite do the job then you may use a move evasive trick. This technique is not advocated for plated brass door handles as it may scratch the brass off as well as leave swirls and tarnishing.
